For those of you who have read Time & Unforeseen Occurrence,
you'll have noticed the lyrics and poetry at the beginning of, and sometimes within each chapter. In creating and setting the mood for
those chapters, I
often pulled from my repertoire songs that I recorded some thirty years ago, when I was
in the same age bracket as Jenny was at the start of the story. Later on,
as the story progressed, new songs came to me in keeping with the
time and pace of Jenny's journey. Some of them are recorded on
Jenny's Songs Unplugged and others we're in the process of
recording on the Spirit CD, due to be released in November
2012.
The theme song you heard when you
arrived at
this page is an RCA production of Bridging the Distance. It was produced
by Richard Fortin, and features Gord Sheard (of Chuck Mangione fame) playing keyboards and
synthesizer. Richard also composed and played the great guitar solo he
replaced my third verse with - a difference in creative perspective we still laugh about
today. As a songwriter, I tell stories and accompany them with music, so I
minded the loss of the final verse. Richard, on the other hand, tells his stories
solely with music and doesn't hold lyrics in high esteem. Whatever our
differences in perspective, Richard Fortin is a world class musician whom I met
while working with Liona
Boyd. In my view, he is one of the best
composers and musicians of our time - and I'm picky. His site is well worth a visit (just click on his name). Liona, a
long-time friend of mine, you probably already know, but I've linked to her site as
well, just in case you haven't made it over there yet.
